The History of LESA Communications
From homegrown communications solutions to support for others in the sector
Our team is led by Kristine Pearson, founder and CEO of the multi-award winning non-profit Lifeline Energy, known for its pioneering solar and wind-up radios. Kristine brings more than 20 years of hands-on experience as a social entrepreneur on the ground in Africa. She has been long recognised by the Schwab Foundation of the World Economic Forum and others.
The vital role of communication
Kristine’s foray into development communications began in Africa in the late 90s, where she quickly realised the vital role of connection and communication in remote communities, an insight that predates smartphones. Working closely with local entrepreneurs and NGOs, she identified a need for professional external communications support. Despite the impactful work of many individuals and organisations, their stories often went untold. Kristine helped address this by featuring these inspiring narratives on the Lifeline Energy website.
In 2019, LESA Communications came into being alongside the Catalyst 2030 movement. Kristine, a Catalyst 2030 founder member, was challenged by another founder member to come up with a name and tagline. Her colleague, seasoned web developer and graphic designer, Karen Vollaire, created the logo, brand colours, a basic website and together, they created comprehensive brand and style guidelines. LESA Communications was born. This was all in preparation for the launch of Catalyst 2030 at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2020.
Since its inception, LESA has successfully executed creative projects for entrepreneurs, social innovators and NGOs in Africa, the US, China and Europe. This client-centred approach has kept us relatively low profile. However, LESA is now at a pivotal point, ready to expand our reach.
Set to broaden our support to changemakers worldwide who are committed to making a positive impact, LESA aims to fill a crucial market gap by offering specialised assistance to those driving change.
From rural African radio projects to launching a communications agency
The Lifeline Energy team helped to create branding for a few other start-ups, before becoming a dedicated communications agency.
